Investment Options

We offer Conservative, Balanced and Growth investment portfolios. Members can choose any one or a mix of these to reflect their personal risk tolerance and investment timeframe. For example, you could choose either 100% Conservative, or 50% Conservative + 50% Balanced, etc. (any mix must be in 5% increments).

The investment manager invests contributions in these portfolios using the following investment ranges:

Investment portfolio Shares Cash/fixed interest
Conservative Up to 20% balance
Balance Up to 70% balance
Growth Up to 100% balance

Conservative
would suit members with a 1 to 3 year investment timeframe who are risk averse. The portfolio holds at least 80% in cash, deposits, and fixed interest investments, and no more than 20% in shares.

Balanced
would suit members with a 3 to10 year investment timeframe or who have a moderate appetite for risk. The portfolio holds no more than 70% in yield and growth shares, with the balance in cash deposits and fixed interest investments. The Balanced portfolio is the default portfolio.

Growth
would suit members with more than 10 years until retirement and who are willing to tolerate declines in the member account balance from time to time. The portfolio can be fully invested in global growth shares.

For further guidance on which investment mandate is most suitable for you we suggest you look at the Retirement Commission’s website.

You can change your investment mandate three times in each year. The first change per year is free. However, second and third changes within a year incur a $50 fee charged to your account.

If you do not choose an investment mandate, or if the chosen mandate is less than 100%, the balance will be invested in the default portfolio (Balanced) until the Manager has received a mandate change.
